“Celebrity Relationships”

I was recently on a television show talking about how this generation's obsession with celebrities can have an affect on our romantic lives. Gen-Xers grew up on an unprecedented diet of tabloids and celebrity gossip. Entertainment magazines like People and Entertainment Weekly were of course also born in our generation, making the lives and relationships of super stars daily fodder. The problem is celebrities have seemingly disposable relationships. We so often see them get married and divorced in the same year. We see more of celebrities when they are living glamorous singles lifestyles than we do when they are in relationships. The images of these stars, single or not, show them globe trotting around the world without partners, surrounded by people of the opposite sex and attending fabulous parties until dawn. Even those famous people in "committed" relationships fail to serve as role models because tabloids never cover the celebrities that have been long-married and are happy, rather they focus on the more dramatic aspects of these unions such as weddings, affairs and divorces. How are we as singles suppose to aspire to a life-long commitment when we see that most of these relationships don't last?
